As you all know by now I’m not a last minute person. I plan my race schedule out a year or more in advance. However I left this date open due to the number of OCR’s taking place across the tri-state area. There’s a Tough Mudder in Pittsburgh (our team was very close to signing up for this one), CMC Race in Brooklyn (the race I actually wanted to do on Saturday) and Hardcore Mudd Run (the race I’m doing because the CMC Race was too expensive). So I guess the Hardcore Mudd Run was my third choice? Just to be clear I’m still super excited about this OCR. Why? I know absolutely nothing about it. I have no expectations about this race other than I hope they have obstacles. If they don’t then their advertising is misleading. All joking aside I’m sure this will be a fun race.
Here is what I know…or think I know about the Hardcore Mudd Run
They offer one event a year. A Saturday and Sunday. I believe it’s around the same time each year too.
There are three courses: Sprint (3-5 miles), Ultra (6-10 miles) and Extreme (11-15 miles). I opted for the Sprint.
They offer event awards in various categories. Example: Last Man Standing, Honor/Valor, Brotherhood/Sisterhood and etc. I don’t know of any other race that offers event awards like this. Personally, I think this is awesome!
There is a Firefighter Challenge that must be completed by any elite runner that fails an obstacle. I’m not running elite so I’m not sure if there is a penalty for non-elites.
I believe they have some background in the firefighter community. I’ll have to confirm this post-race.
Rumor has it there is pizza at the finish line. If it’s true then I may have found a new favorite race.
Participants get a shirt, dog tags and beer. All standard OCR perks.
That’s pretty much everything I know or think I know for now. Hopefully I’ll learn some new information on Saturday.
Since I’m a firefighter I got the opportunity to register for this race for only $35.00! They offer all first responders, law enforcement and military a special price of $35.00 at registration. This is such a great and generous offer. Some races out there will offer discounts similar to this, but this is the best offer by far.
This is a short race so I won’t need much in terms of gear. Below is my list:
Photo ID (wallet)
Confirmation Email (saved on my phone)
Running Clothes (shirt, compression shorts, compression pants)
Flip Flops (for the after race showers)
Change of Clothes & Shoes
Arm Sleeves (from Sleefs)
Weather Report: 88 degrees with a 50% of PM thunderstorms. I race at 11:30am so I’m hoping to be finished before any bad weather.
In the next mile I’ll have my full race review on the Hardcore Mudd Run with some more information about this little known race.
